Just a couple of weeks after the sports betting sites were reporting the kidnapping of Washington Nationals player Wilson Ramos in Venezuela, comes the news of the stabbing of Greg Halman in the Netherlands. While Ramos was rescued, Halman died as the result of his injuries. Halman was a rookie in 2011 and he went home to the Netherlands to start conditioning to play the full season for the Mariners in 2012 when his younger brother allegedly stabbed him to death. No details are known as of yet.
The Boston Red Sox continue its managing carousel as a new candidate, Bobby Valentine, has entered the picture. The pay per head sportsbook experts cannot keep up with the candidates battling for the Red Sox skipper job, but Valentine looks to be the top contender right now. It was thought that Sandy Alomar would get the job after Texas Rangers’ pitching coach Mike Maddux dropped out of the race. But now the Red Sox have started talks with Valentine and it looks like a decision could be made soon.
In an announcement that will make fans of the Toronto Blue Jays and every other MLB franchise happy, MLB and the players’ association have announced that they have reached a new deal on a collective bargaining agreement. This will allow MLB to avoid the same kind of labor strife that hit the NFL over the summer and still cripples the NBA. The deal will keep labor peace through 2016.
